'The war was upon us,' the Queen explained. 'Your brothers tried to warn everyone, but were killed for it.'

'So you lied to me about THAT, too?' Ed snapped.

'Please, Edwin,' the Queen urged. 'I couldn't bear the thought of losing you... to anyone. So I gave you what you needed to survive, in the hope that should we be separated as we were, you would find your way back to us...'

Edwin was astonished. 'How did this happen to you, then?'

'I developed a new technology for protecting people from radiation, by adding liquid metal to their composition. Your father tried it first, but...' She pointed to the King, who shifted in his seat. 'It was perfected by the time I used it.'

There were a million questions in Edwin's head, but all he could think of was one.

'Do you really love me, Mother?'
